When Miracles Meet Skepticism: Reflections on Erika Kirk and Faith in a Jaded World

October 09, 20254 min read

When the world is jaded, we must commit to wait, pray, and trust God!

Perhaps we live in a world that has become so jaded, it’s hard to believe anybody or anything. We’ve been conditioned by years of corruption, manipulation, and half-truths to instinctively look for the lie… to search for the conspiracy… to question everything before we ever consider trusting what God might be doing.

Somewhere along the way, we’ve forgotten what the Bible says about counting it all joy (James 1:2–4). What an honor it truly is to find joy in all things, even in seasons of uncertainty, and to draw our strength not from worldly narratives but from the Lord Himself.

We’re Not Used to Seeing Glory

In recent days, we’ve witnessed something powerful after the brutal assassination of Charlie Kirk. We saw a revival and a movement stirring hearts. Yet, at the same time, the enemy has been whispering to the masses, guiding people to pass judgment on one another and even crazier, a widow. A widow who has shown a peace and a joy that withstands all understanding.

It’s as if we don’t know how to respond to something miraculous anymore.

In my own cynicism, my husband reminded me that we must hold true to our family motto in these times, and that's to remain still. Watch what happens without inserting judgement or opinions. I want to pass that advice onto you. Trust me, as a wife, I've found it hard to watch a smiling and composed Erika. It has challenged my own understanding of calling it all joy and walking in the strength of the Lord.

Who am I to say that God isn't turning Erika's tears into joy? Is my heart so cynical that I refuse to lean into the hope that God is guiding her through this journey of grief with HIS pure joy and peace? This must have been what it felt like in Bible times, when people literally watched Jesus perform miracles… and still turned away. Even in the presence of undeniable truth, some hearts remained hardened and I see that right now. We witnessed revival after Charlie's death, an obvious MIRACLE in the midst of a national tragedy! What if joy in the grief is another miracle of God's that He is allowing us to take a front row seat to?

Have we not, as believers, witnessed a miracle of revival happening all around the world? Will we now choose to turn a blind eye to it?

And what if, just maybe, the strength we see in Erika is in itself a miracle? A living testimony to God’s goodness and the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). It’s uncomfortable for a skeptical world to acknowledge the supernatural, but God’s work often doesn’t fit into the narratives we expect.

Our Posture Matters

As followers of Jesus, our posture should be one of “wait and see,” not “sit and judge.” Only God knows the innermost places of Erika’s heart. Whether she is being genuine or not is ultimately His business, not ours.

Our business is to lean into God, not into personalities, movements, or public opinion. Time will reveal the fruit, and Scripture is clear: we judge the fruit, not the person (Matthew 7:16–20).

Faith That Stands Firm

No matter how the story unfolds, nothing changes if your foundation is rooted in loving and following the Lord. Your faith should not hinge on external circumstances or individuals; it should grow deeper because of HIM. Our relationship with Jesus must be steady, not swayed by headlines, speculation, or the shifting opinions of the crowd.

So What Do We Do Now?

We pray. We trust. We wait.

We pray for our nation.
We pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ.
We pray for a widow and her two children.
We pray for college students grieving the loss of someone they looked up to.
And we pray for our own hearts - that we would know, love, and serve Jesus with greater sincerity and devotion.

In a world that teaches us to doubt first and believe later, may we be the people who choose to stand in faith, wait on the Lord, and trust that His truth will always rise to the surface. 🙏
